Reaching Too Hard

Reaching Too Hard

A Poem by LeslieNoel
"

This poem describes how I use to give too freely of myself without protecting my own heart and energy. I have long since learned how to balance giving to others, but also how to take care of myself.

"
I reach too hard
To those souls in need
Protected by big blockades
To keep there feelings safe

I reach through the cracks
And let my supportive juices
Slip right on through
My soul is fed, but only temporarily

I give
Any ounce
And every bit
To keep your soul afloat
Make sure you don't drown

Here, use me as a flotation device

Until I am bled dry
And don't receive quality support in return

I turn bitter and feel resentful
From reaching too hard
Because I'm left depleted

They have not filled me back up
And just take
Or i have given too freely
I've been reaching too hard

My Dad always used to say, there are two types of people. The givers who are radiaters and the takers who are the drains. Beware of the drains he used to say. It's all about balance. Reaching out too much will impact on you negatively. Thank you for sharing.

Your dad was a smart guy! Truer words were never spoken.
