Why Icarus Fell

Why Icarus Fell

A Poem by Askew

I'm Icarus with hand-made wings of gold
I leapt from that window without hesitation
I flew and flew so close to the sun
But it's heat burned me
It melted the glue holding my feathers together
And so I fell
In love with you
I knew what awaited me once I jumped
I soared like a bird
And dropped like an anchor
But what they don't know
Is that I grinned as I shed my wings
I was free falling into your embrace
After purposely tasting the sun
I let myself burn
Because I knew what the fall would bring

Lexi - this is so beautiful. The wonder, the thrill of falling, literally falling in love. Best yet, knowing it will be alright.

Thank you for your write - take care - Dave
