Four words

Four words

A Poem by Riv

I want to die.

The four simple words, that could be an unfortunate end to a rather unfortunate story. As soon as they are said, friends and family jump to your side. People who are complete strangers somehow go out of their way, thinking that if they don’t “save” you, they’ll be held responsible. Whoever told us that we’re worth it. We aren’t sure if we can trust them, because if you hate yourself that much, how can you even trust yourself. The thoughts that go through our heads, what would our last words be. Then suddenly, we’re wrecked with an unimaginable amount of fear, of pain, of what would be left behind in our wake. We don’t want to die. We just want it to stop “hurting”, but that’s life. It won’t ever stop hurting, not even after we’re gone.

Not so much a poem, but something I couldn't explain without these words.

The poem left questions and thoughts to ponder,
"We don’t want to die. We just want it to stop “hurting”, but that’s life. It won’t ever stop hurting, not even after we’re gone. "
I believe we must listen to our friends and family. Sometime people are walking on a dangerous edge and we cannot see it. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Riv, I often think those four words due to my bipolar/anxiety disorders. And no matter how many people tell you how vital you are to THEIR lives it just doesn't seem realistic, therefore it's not true. If you ever think those words try to imagine the wreckage you would leave in your wake, the damage you would cause to family, friends...and leaving such a legacy would always leave you marked as one who just didn't try hard enough. Keep allowing THOSE feelings to drag you back from the brink. Good luck. take care...dan

It's amazing to see how much life is left when someone says those 4 words and doesn't actually die. I know I have been in some dark places, some dark times and to think of everything since those days it's crazy to know what I've been able to live through. Some people have it worse than others, some people have it worse than any can ever imagine. The right answer is finding a way to break that and change to find something better, something worth living for :) Nice work :)

May you find peace and happiness at sometime. It does not have to go on and on and normally does not. Well done piece.

The words "I want to die" go against the common thread of what a reasonable human being would say if he/she were not emotionally hurting in some way. It is a "crying out" for help. People are going to respond to that if they are caring people and are not afraid of involvement. Riv, you are part of a society that cares about it's others, you need to get used to that. You are not alone on an island by yourself; you can reach out and be helped by those around you. Try it on for size!
