Only Down

Only Down

A Poem by Beth Lindsay

Luck bestows those who are good

And those who do all that they could

For wearing a smile and being honest and pure

Their lives will be blessed for sure

So I stumble around with a broken smile

Just to get a good review on file

Greet people and assist them in anyway

And always honest in what I say

I work hard and for anyone

Even if I have to sacrifice a day of fun

Yet these legends of being honest and kind

I have yet a reward to find

For I am treated worse than the devil

And in the game called life I haven't reached the level

Working together yet all alone

When I'm down no one answers the phone

I am in the wrong to be frustrated

And all these smiles only got me hated

Yet I wake up and keep on trying

Smile by day,  at night in crying

Not in pity for my pathetic life

But in frustration and strife

For I done all I was told to do

And yet all the chances I somehow blew

Every situation is a lose lose

No matter how I pay my dues

With a smile or with a frown

There isn't an up,  only down
