The Literary Life

The Literary Life

A Poem by Lisa Lindsey

I do not need a large oak desk,
a custom-built computer
or a study loft with a skylight.

All I require is a laptop, a coffeemaker,
and a window to watch the seasons change.

Yes, a view of the ocean would be nice,
a little harbor with a lighthouse
and a sprinkling of sailboats.

It might inspire a novel of romance
on the high seas. "I Once Loved a Captain"
would make an excellent title.

But my current view of the river
and skyline of trees suits me,
considering I only write poems
about weather moods, mostly.

And now I feel suddenly inspired
as an evening rain taps lightheartedly
on my window pane,

beckoning me to turn off the laptop,
take the umbrella for a brisk walk,
or stay cozy by the window
with a cup of milky cappuccino.

I love the literary life.

Hi
"Yes, a view of the ocean would be nice,"

Thinking something like this just as I came to it. I really like the balance here in the writer; the thought too of getting up and away to maybe find some more inspiration. This is so nice and unpretentious in the best way. Thanks.

This is so "you", Lisa. You never wanted more than your computer, your coffee, and your window on the world. Yes, the literary life suits you and we, the readers, are the winners when we read your words. Your world is the literary world.....simple yet filled with budding imagery. Lydi*
