For my grandmother. You taught me more without your words than you did with them.

If this is goodbye, then let me be honest

If this is goodbye, if I don’t see you again……

 

Words can’t really do what you’ve done justice.

So if this is goodbye, may this song speak to you.

 

I know you don’t always understand

Where you go, or who you are

Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt when you don’t remember me.

It’s ok.

 

You look at me , concerned.

I can tell you want to say something.

 You struggle to put the words together.

 

I’m sorry I can’t take the pain away.

I’m sorry I can’t change the lot you’ve been given….

Without suffering there would be no compassion

Your eyes say it all.

 

 

The vessel may be damaged, but the spirit is not broken.

Your spirit is not broken.

 

You are strong.

Beautiful. Oh, so beautiful.

Do you see what I see?

I’ve said it before,

Permit me to say it again.  

Your body has weathered these years with grace.

The final miles are run.

And that’s ok

 Because …. Do you remember that spirit I was talking about?

It surpasses everything this physical world has to offer.

When you leave, our hearts are with you.

When you leave, you will not have left a life with no legacy.

 

You invite me, simply by being there…… to look up.

Look beyond.

 

A woman of grace, yet fearless.

Beat against her defense, yet she will not crumble.

 

You inspire me, simply by standing quietly for what you believe.

Would that I could embody that.

 

So, if this is goodbye…..

May the Lord bless you

May the Lord keep you

May He make His face shine upon you
