Ten years

Ten years

A Poem by Emily

At least ten years have passed,
Yet I’ve always found myself yearning to know what happened to him.
I often worried, as the “mother” of the groups I hung around with what happened to my dear best friend.
The boy that filled my whole world,
While I stood by basking in the fact that he considered me a best friend.
The boy that made my heart skip a beat without even trying.
He was here one day and gone the next,
Yet here he was reaching out,
Ten years later here he was,
Expressing that he cared and had no idea I felt the same.
To be so young and naïve, missing all the signs we put out there for one another.

When we are young our emotions are so heightened but our judgment is not. We fail to see or recognize small signs or hints from others. Sadly this poem is very familiar with me because I had a similar experience. I wish I would have been braver when I was younger and not so repressed and unsure.
