Nightmare of my kids

To my precious young men,

I had a nightmare last night

Today you are just boys

In my dream you were men

More than I’ll ever be

You were standing watch at you base

As a huge truck came barreling towards you

Any lesser men would have ran

I would have ran

You two planted your feet firmly

One shot at the driver the other at the tires

The truck exploded leveling a city block

My young men gave their lives

Heroes who died in vain

You hit a milestone I never accomplished

Was the burden too much to bare?

You could have opened up to me

But now you’ll never have the chance

We all want a better life for our children and most paths to the future now seem to lead to a violent outcome. It is a time that being a parent is reason for nightmares and anxieties to haunt them night and day. I want to thank Alondra T. N. for the read request for this poem it has good emotional depth and will haunt me for days and I love when some I read is powerful enough to stay with me the way your poem has, Thank you I give it five out of five Clap!
