Boundaries

Boundaries

A Poem by Laura Kate

Speckles lift

their peace disturbed

by the oars of foreign rangers

swirling and then

settling to their beds

as above they wade through their rivers.

Confronting unknown territories

creating distant memories

trespassing all boundaries

- swim unchartered waters

Silence

be still

let

the boat

         not rock

There are some of us who won't test the boundaries, will stay within range and there are others who can't help themselves. Those who have a pioneering and adventurous spirit come to mind. Thinking here of mountaineers wanting to conquer a mountain for the first time, or sail a new course which hasn't been attempted before. Pushing the boundaries can lead to danger. We each have to decide whether we are prepared to rock the boat. I liked the imagery in your poem LauraKate. You had me rowing up the Nile in times past, wondering whether I would be accepted as friend or foe. Nice little write which got my mind wandering. All good wishes.

i like the boundaries within this piece...and the questions...do we cross them? and if we do...is it in peace or for war?
can we cross to another and not rock the boat...or do we need a little boat rocking for positive change to come.
i like sprinkling of words in the last stanza that is much like speckles sprinkled on the page.
the way it shows the few trespassing...getting their toes wet...see if the waters will get rough.
