The Man from the Sea

The Man from the Sea

A Poem by Laura Kate

A white heart glistened gently

from the dark shores on the sand

steady seas they brought him

to the safety of the land

restricted eyes went wandering

as the tides came dawdling home

from behind the dunes, she saw him

and her mind began to roam

and though the sea salt's cleansing

had him shining clear and true,

her heart, despite the distance

still belonged to red and blue.

blinded were her loyal eyes

- stripes defined her boundary lines

the fools-gold bars and clay-made stars

which kept her loving heart confined

still when the Full Moon brings the light

she asks the seas in case they might

replay that night

for a chance to re-start

with the man from the sea

and his glistening white heart.

it's almost parallel to Moby Dick...the White whale...great in appearance, bigger than life, like some lovers might seem until we have the face to face confrontation/ contact and find that they are actually very dangerous to us.
the sea, the white sand...the ocean...in a vast sea we often pick the most dangerous of mates.
okay, i am crazy...it's where you took me with this.
That book seems to have been a major influence lately...

I loved the complete poem dear LouBelle.
"blinded were her loyal eyes

The above lines could stand alone. Heart confine. Can know joy? Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I did enjoy dear LouBelle and you are welcome.
Sometimes, as things get crazier & crazier here in the USA, I wonder if there's another place "out there" where so many issues do not plague constantly. Your poem lures me into a new possibility of existence, abandoning the familiar, the known, the corrupt, in favor of a completely unheard-of existence. I wish I could just walk out into the sea & get there from here! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Me too Margie, wouldn't that be great! Hope you're keeping well.Laura.
A mystery man, a man from the sea. Who is he? Your lines are full of intrigue LauraKate. Whoever he is or was, he is remembered in a special way. A heart that glistens is one you would want to hold on to. A lovely read. Thank you. Be well and keep safe.
