The Character

The Character

A Poem by Laura Kate

Please don't fix your gaze on me
and tell me that I've changed

your eyes penetrate me with arrows of despise
and I cannot bear the shame

I know your perception not to be truth
in reality the real me you never knew

I became myself once your chapters were written
your story read and your typos forgiven

now I observe the pain and anguish in your eyes
as the character you created in your mind's eye
dies

Good use of metaphor here. "Character" works particularly well! I enjoyed the read!

Thank you very much, Kent :)
Oh my goodness...this is amazing.

the last two stanzas...typos forgiven...
once we get to know the real person, if we can forgive those typos, damn, the story is good, yes.
