Deal With the Devil

Deal With the Devil

A Poem by Lowesy

I’m running up mountains

And I’m swimming against the waves,

I’m trying to jump to the stars

But I can’t underneath these chains.

If I could, I would make a deal with the devil,

Trade away my soul.

Come way down to his level

So I can have the chance to grow old.

I’m tired, yes I am.

Yes, sir, I cannot breathe.

There’s a pain in my chest.

Yes, a pain that I can’t relieve

‘Cos this monster deep inside

Is eating away at me.

It’s breaking down my pride,

And it’s changing my beliefs.

This thunder is loud

Beating inside my chest,

Smashing to get out,

My feelings are hard to express.

One by one,

My chances are looking grim.

One by one,

The lights begin to dim.

I’m tired, yes I am.

Yes, sir, I cannot breathe.

There’s a pain in my chest.

Yes, a pain that I can’t relieve

‘Cos this monster deep inside

Is eating away at me.

It’s breaking down my pride,

And it’s changing my beliefs.

If I could, I would make a deal with the devil,

Trade away my soul.

Come way down to his level

So I can have the chance to grow old.

in times of desperation we are quick to sell our souls to the devil, if he would only makes things right. just to alleviate the pain, i would ask him to take it away, i wouldn't care what i'd have to pay. it gives us a sense of hope from what the doctors tell us, we still have in our mind the devil to deliver us from all the pain and suffering. great poem.

Very nice, seems to echo the way I feel lately. Some days devil deals don't look so bad.

"It’s breaking down my pride,
And it’s changing my beliefs."~ The true Monster are your inner demons, that work fast and steady to break you down (anything destructive: It could be alcoholism, abuse, self-worth, depression)...while the Devil waits for you to give in, trading what is priceless, your Soul.

The fifth stanza is Poignant...I sense anger and frustration for not being able to express the pain... A feeling of "spiraling out of control"...Nicely done.

Amazing poem. Reminded me of The Devil and Daniel Webster. The poem seems so intense and yet resigned at the same time. Can't quite put a finger on it.
Nicely writ'! Sounds like it should be a song.
