Catching Kisses

Catching Kisses

A Story by Lúcia
"

Hope...

"

On a beautiful prairie, under a tree, there he sat reading a book. There was a warm and fragrant breeze, a blue sky, a bright sun and a happy bird tweeting. The spring scent and sound in the air made him a bit drowsy. So, as he was closing the book to take a nap, he saw what seemed to be a long blonde hair floating away and two little hands in the air as if they were catching butterflies. Snooping, he stood up to see to whom that hair and those hands belonged to. They belonged to a little girl that happily was running about near the river.  And every time she caught whatever she was catching she would take her closed hand to her heart and dangled her body smiling. Curious he walked towards her to know what she was catching, and as he approached her, she turned to him smiling and said:

"Hello!

 “Hello! What are you doing?"

"I’m catching kisses!"

""Kisses?!"

"Yes, kisses! Can’t you see them?"

" Well…! Not really!"

"They are kisses of longing and love."

"Kisses of longing and love?! From who?"

"From my mummy."

"Your mummy…?!"

"She had to go up there, in the sky… the angels called her so she could take care of them because they are very, very sad."

"Why are the angels sad?"

"Because men can’t take care of their homes, children, parents, animals, earth…"

"I see…!"

With no words to retort to that undeniable truth, he just silently sat there, behind the little girl, watching her catching her mother’s kisses.

So glad to have you on the Cafe, Lúcia! Hope you will share more of your stories and poetry soon. This was so profoundly beautiful and tender. It connected me to the little girl's heartbreak and loss so quickly, yet in lifting waves of light. Also helped me reflect on the lives of those I love, and those I've loved who have gone on. xo
