Best Friend Who?

Best Friend Who?

A Poem by melancholia skies

What am I supposed to do?
It feels like I don't even know you.
What happened to the girl I knew?
You're so concerned with face value,
You're painting on layers of makeup,
Through and through.

You want to grow up...
What happened to my best friend?
Why are you turning this into a bitter end?
I hardly recognize you...
You're so focused on silly things,
Glitz, glamor, over-sized rings.

You call everyone names,
You play hurtful games.
It's not you, and we both know it.
You're just too insecure to show it.
It's disgusting how you act.
You're thinking you're all that.

But what happens when everyone leaves you?
We all lose our charm, sooner or later.
Just what will you do?
You're no longer my friend, not her.
She was better than this.

So you can take all your lies,
You can paint them all over your face.
But I'm not about to tolerate your disgusting tries,
Tries to set the mark on where you should be.
It's honestly not your place.
And even here, with me,
Is no longer your place.

I'd say, I'm sorry dear.
But in all honesty, I'm not.
You're just another voice I hear,
You won't dictate the way I'm taught,
How I behave, how I dress myself,
Despite that, you're too focused on yourself.

You yell, you scream, you throw a fit.
All over not bringing money to school,
Instead of a boxed lunch?
Is that supposed to be cool?
It's a waste.
And now you're one too.

Best friend who?

i'm in the process of losing a best friend, and this is exactly how i feel. And this is pretty much why i decided to join this website yesterday. I read your poem out loud to myself and realized that i've been saying much of the same things to her.

It generates a feeling of anger, but a sadness. The fact that things will never be the same again, it's to move on. People change. And only a few of us are lucky enough to be proud of ourselves being who we really are.

However... as for the prose... it think that you could take some words out/add some words in to create more of a rhythm. A steady, angry rhythm. You can nail it.
