Joyful Fish

Joyful Fish

A Poem by Luke L

Diving into the cool water
I feel refreshed and energized
The chills spur me onwards

Front crawl I use my S-pull
Perfect form
I was in the water as a fetus
And swam early when I was born

Years crafted my arms and legs
To kick and pull through
My lungs I owe to the pool as well

I love it
I am a joyful fish
Freedom as I propel forwards

Athleticism
In it's greatest form
When the lactic acid, stiffness and pain
Give way to smooth energy

I have always said that in my opinion there is no greater athlete than a swimmer in terms of muscle tone and general "form"... I think it is the lengthening of muscle and the general aerobic ability that becomes second nature which makes it so beautiful--you can always tell a swimmer and a runner from any other kind of athelte.

I love the way that you brought this back to the womb...how we all began as "fish" in a sense, which if looked at metaphorically, is a nod toward evolution. We all crawl out of a watery womb into this earth, and perhaps we crawled out of a watery womb as a species... Thought provoking...
