Work Rewards

Work Rewards

A Poem by Luke L

Man I feel lazy and tired and I don't want to work on anything
But f**k it I'm going to grind on
Ow my body hurts, my head aches
I don't want to keep going f**k it I want to give it up
But push push through it
Until

Yes I'm in the zone
And this is the most rewarding the doing
The work, the creation
Man I'm feeling it this makes me much happier
Than relaxation ever could

I am so lazy sometimes and it's hard to start the momentum
But when I start going it just goes on forever and I'm loving it
The inspiration sparking off rapid fire so much
I can't even catch it all
But I'm not worried

One day I will keep going forever
One day when there is a healthy way
Not to sleep, eat or use the bathroom
I will just create forever
Then it will be shown
The levels that are truly possible

My imagination and REM sleep
In the material plane

This poem has the makings of an amazing novel. What would happen if you indeed got your wish. For some reason I am reminded of Midas and his golden touch. On the poem, I like the progression I see in character and his travels from listlessness and self-loathing to a creature of artistic power and then to, dare-i-say, a robot who doesn't even need to use the bathroom. Would save trees. lol. The last two lines are beyond intriguing and are almost a poem in of itself. A lot to ponder here. Thank you, Luke. Great write.

rightly remarked once we shed off our lazyness and start enjoying whatever we do there is no stopping....

I totally agree with Pryde this would be a great idea for a book/film.

thank you, Amanda :)
This sang to me as more of a journal than a poem, despite it's clear stanza form. Have you tried keeping a journal? It may work for you! Your closing couplet were the ballast of this piece, and on those I commend you. Keep it up Luke

I really enjoyed it and I think it really captured our emotions when we're in the zone of writing and never want it to stop no matter what.

absolutely, thank you very much for the comment :)
To Pryde's point below, I think this is a piece that transcends poetry...it could be the basis for a novel or short story, but I think this is tailor-made for a stage or coffee house...I know you said you like to write direct but there's plenty of room for interpretation here, especially when applied to a dramatic delivery...just a great piece of writing, well done :)
