Member Of The Band

Member Of The Band

A Poem by Luke L

Out on the highway
In the Manitoba countryside
Just me and the birds
The crickets chirp loudly
Where that is real
Not just a comic staple

I wander alone
Under baking dry sun
On the gravel road
Chalky under foot

As I gyrate my hips
Shadow box punch and kick
To the rock and roll
Led Zeppelin III and
Melissa Etheridge's self-titled debut
In my headphones

Imagining myself
At some small town live show
Before these artists first broke
Dancing as a hippie in the seventies
I'm a member of the band

You had my attention, then you had my love at the mention of Melissa Etheridge, my hero. So for this I went back and re-read with new fervor and allowed it to bake inside my brain. Phenomenol write and intriguing prose, developmental skill and highly contagious read. One of my new favorites!!
Love, Love!!!

No John Mellencamp? You and Tate are the Norman Rockwell's of poetry.

This is great Luke, I like the image and can picture it. I enjoyed the audio version too, it's nice to hear it how you wanted it to be read. So many times it's hard to read in the tempo the writer wrote it in. Very enjoyable.

thank you :)
Love it, love it, love it...I always felt like I was born about fifteen years too early, especially as it pertains to music...I was tickled to see Zep III referenced...I have the original single of Immigrant Song as well as the album itself...I can certainly picture that as something I'd be listening to while traversing the Prairies...awesome :)

Yes, brings back many memories of those great artists. Lots of great rhythm there Luke.

I like the music on this one as well, but there seems to be a section where there is none. Is that how the song goes? You might consider splicing, so there is music throughout.
