Dirt

Dirt

A Poem by Luke L

At first I couldn't move
I was stuck in place
Couldn't build any momentum

Then a light wind gently blew
And a little dirt was brushed off me
I could crawl
Slowly and painstakingly
But I could crawl

As I made my way forward
I excavated myself further
More of the earth I left behind
In a cloud of dust
At my back
And so with shaky footing
I began to walk

And then I felt it
I was a wheel
Moving downhill
Momentum building
Surprised to be moving so fast, now
On this path
Looking back on stagnation

And then I ran with confidence brimming
Washed off the last bits of debris
Slick with rain
But I was still a mere mortal
An inspiring example
But human nonetheless

Finally I shook off the last of my flaws
Painful limbs ripped out of my vertebrae
And I took to the sky with celestial wings

The evolution of man to life to death and flight. Wonderful metaphor work.
