my smile remains

my smile remains

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

thinking back ....remembering might have beens that never were

"

"she smiled til she thought her face would crack"
by amy abshier reyes courtesy of etsy.com

seeds of broken promises
uncomfortably caught between my teeth
refuse to be dislodged
even as i floss with open ended speculations
or rinse with rosy tinged insinuations
so here i sit
hitting the space bar between ennui and joi de vivre
yet my smile remains
the embellished privacy curtain for my soul
a false premise perhaps
but it belongs to me

It is true. we each have our smile to share on
any given day. It can bring warmth and comfort
to many a weary soul. It portrays a flower
that has the power to heal a grief stricken friend
who is on the mend.... much like a cup of
tea with a friend. truly, Pat

I think we hide behind false positive smiles, it not only protect our sanity but other's as well...although your soul knows full well when that curtain comes down. Great read Lydia.

You are so right, Frieda....impossible to fool ourselves. Thank you for your comments. Lydi**
I know what you mean about pretenses and smiles that do not really show who we are but still it is our choice to paste it onto our faces like make-up that can be carefully applied in order to hide certain blemishes and accentuate our more gracefully features, but can be removed only by one's self to reveal the real person (poet?) beneath. It's a facade of sorts, but for others; not for ourselves. Great poem!

Great line - your poem belongs next to the Mona Lisa; I feel like this is what she would say about the mystery of her smile...

Well I can say this made me smile. Too many people I think have abandoned the fine art of smiling. I for one enjoy it to no end. Very nicely done.

I agree with Sami, Lydi. Our smiles and our frowns are our own, and your premise is not a false one at all. This is a delightful poem and it makes me smile. What a wonderful image, "hitting the space bar between ennui and joie de vivre"! Who else but you would come up with that one? Yours is definitely a unique talent!
