Elegant

Elegant

A Poem by Lydia

Artwork by Marie Laurencin

The day was elegant
white silk gloves up to the elbow elegant
we floated on an ocean of possibility
two minions of happiness and love

In the sky

                   there it was
a constellation made for only us
but as the night progressed it dimmed
a sign that someday we would too

The cracks in the floor of my past
are filled with memories like this
and I carry them

right here

in this sequined purse
swaying from my once gloved arm

You have given the reader a self portrait up enjoy.
Yes, you have bodied elegance in your past days. Yet, I believe you hold those memories as a living testament in the treasure of who you are today. It is obvious in your skill and refinement as a poet.
Indeed we are graced with your expressions!

Sheer elegance Lydi** in this short poem which is packed with sophisticated imagery and emotion. So poetically expressed and the care that you have taken with your posted imagery shows as well. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

When a poem from 6 years ago gets attention, it makes me so happy. Thank you, Chris. Lydi**

These words have a class and style of their very own, and without doubt 'Elegant' is the most apt title they could have bestowed upon them....... Neville

Your poetry has so much gravity and yet it is so tender. At the same time, it is so simply put. Really inspired. Thank you. :)

Thank you, Debbie. Lydi**
You have depicted an elegant picture of life you have passed together and the life coming ahead.
Love how honestly you pointed out that our life will be dimmed too.
Thanks for sharing the wonderful piece enriched with mundane as well as spiritual reality.

I absolutely loved this stanza, the poem was great but what an ending! It's nice to see acceptance of old glories passed yet with a defiant sense of hope and determination - "I carry them, right here"

At least that's how I interpreted it. Thanks for sharing!
