We Are

We Are

A Poem by Lydia
"

We are poets....we dream.....create fantasies...until reality rears its ugly head!

"

Artwork by Mahmood Sabzi “Tango”

You are the tonic and I am the gin

sharing the same glass

ice cubes try to water down our desire

but they don’t succeed

                             we are one

                                     shameless and unblushing

(though we do look a bit green

from the reflection of that damned lime)

We are anticipation

hovering on the edge of a barstool

then tangoing onto the smoky dance floor

I’m the fork and you’re the knife poised

over a juicy filet mignon

                   the two of us

                           flags on a flagpole

coming alive in the winds of passion

We are sultry and sizzling

with dreams not daring to sashay

in the light of day

we are involuntary fantasies

                             romantic reflexes

and so it shall ever be....right?

At least until one of us remembers

                                 responsibilities

(my conscience is in cahoots with Madame Fate

doncha know?)

and draws us back into this mundane reality

it's ok Lydi, I can wait for fantasy and dancing and romance re-appear... redzone, sitting on bar stool, gin and tonic in hand, waiting for responsibility to leave you alone.... but in the meantime I think I will ask Ms Madame Fate to dance, I like the temptation!!! "sashay", what an excellent word for this poem.... and yes, Lydi all the words tangoing together make it"nice"...and now, more gin please(to hell with the tonic) ... hic ;0) ---redzone

Thanks for going back to find this one, Holly! Lydi**
I love this - but it makes my heart ache a little - reality is a cruel master and I am on lock down these days.

Fred and Ginger evoked here Lydia. Smooth and sensual, energetic and erotic and full of Life - Life the damned thing like a green lime just poking its nose into our affair...
Great work Lydia - dancing frees us all

Gorgeous piece Lydi. What a beautiful story of a perfect romance that shouldn't happen! ... or should it?
