and so it goes

and so it goes

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

life just keeps on going....no matter how absurd. cynical me is at the keyboard of life.

"

and so it goes
        close to nowhere
               far from authenticity
frazzled minds are forced to focus
on what the vox populi seems entranced by
i suspect
condescending

will be the word of the night
but that’s life in the big city
         the magic city
                  the city of love
                        well not exactly
can one be inebriated with illusion?
when the truth hides
behind smoke and mirrors
is it destined to become squalid and shabby?
at the intersection of petty and empty
the hoi polloi walk through a maze
                stares vacant
                     sagaciousness lost
oui, c’est vrais
and so it goes

"can one be inebriated with illusion?

I envision a growing population of "monkey see, monkey do"... (you know what I mean?)

Intriguing write Lydi!~xoxo~:)

can one be inebriated with illusion? -- Love this line...and I believe that "one" can :)

This is a great piece; it shows the crazy ride that we are all taking through this life. Just when you think that you are on a straight road, a fork gets thrown in there and you're suddenly going in a totally different direction. I think that is partially the beauty of life, though...there is no way to know for sure what to expect, so we must enjoy it all.

Your reviews mean a lot. Thank you. Lydi**
Where have all the village characters gone too ? You're right to feel a little cynical Lydia, the masses are indeed brainwashed by those who sit in higher authority who tell them their way is the right way!!

I beg to differ, elitism was never my thing !

GOOD...elitism should be erased if you ask me. Thanks for the comments. Lydi**
Not quite the big happy vibrant city we might think. A lot of sadness if we look past the pretty veneer. But who wants to do that? The monkeys say it all. Great insight here Lydi.

Keith, I appreciate your review. Thanks. Lydi**
"Pedantry is the last refuge of the truly ignorant." Because the entire reason for the existence of language is communication. I must be able (as a writer) to communicate with my reader my thoughts without seeming snobbish or insulting to the intellect. I like to say, never underestimate your audience. I'd rather have to look up a word than to be told the same thing over and over or revisit a scene a half dozen times. I don't consider myself a cynic though. I'm more of an optimistic realist. But I have little time and less patience with plastic people or pseudo-intellectualism. "Inebriated with illusion"...is it possible you ask? Surely you jest. I thought that was the entire foundation for Fox network and CNN. (laughing) The spin doctors and poll takers can twist any piece of bubblegum blather into case-hardened facts and swear to it on a stack of Bibles they don't believe in. They do it all the time. Sensationalism is the fare of the day and the masses swarm to the meal like hungry flies over a dung heap. Now there's an apt comparison. It seems there's a giant pity party going on everywhere and everyone has some reason they want someone else to feel sorry for them. I'm sorry I don't feel sorry for anyone. (laughing) But here's why. There is no monopoly on pain. There's plenty of suffering to go around so quit bellyaching that you got more than your fair share because you ain't walking in your brother's shoes. Simple as that. See the things a simple poem sets my mind to ranting about? (laughing) I enjoyed the read. Hey, I could have said, "Great job, loved yer poom" I got that as a review once. (smile)

Dear Lydia,

You're right. It's true. And the vox populi has never been louder and so content impoverished. I fear we are being Twittered to death. Sagaciousness lost. You bet.

Loved the write. High marks!

A bit of a departure for you. You say cynical but I thoughtfully wry. I would counter there is truth in everything, even a lie; you just have to know where to look.

The poetry of cynicism, penning the truth about life's bizarre quirks. If one is intelligent and decent, it is impossible not to notice... The sad fact is that there are so many who do not. Great piece, Lydi, though I wish these things were just your imagination...
