a cryptic message

a cryptic message

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by garmash

last night
the moonlight touched my cheek
gently
                just as you used to
today i am full of yesterday’s laughter
studying a mote of dust
suspended in a sunbeam
wondering if this is a cryptic message
from another chapter of my life
one that i never quite closed

Life is a beautiful puzzle. It makes us move on yet keeps taking us back to some places where we dwelt before. Maybe there is something there, some reason beyond our understanding. I found this poem so beautiful in it's musings. ..Thanks for sharing Lydi.

breathtaking!!!! I'm truly and honestly enthralled. where you, true poets, find those images and ideas such as "a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam" is beyond me.

As always, I love the personification in this poem, particularly the moonlight touching the narrator's cheek. And the message is hopeful and sad at the same time, memories bringing laughter while equally bringing doubt of having moved on. After all, it's not the memories that hold us back; it's the not letting go of the cause of those memories. Some relationships are worth letting go, and yet others bring us laughter and nostalgia. Beautiful poem!

You saw it all so clearly, Karen. Thank you! Lydi**
It's those memories that make us a better poet, for we're always trying to better ourselves in expressing what we feel.

Loved the warmth you personified so well, Lydi!

My best,
Kelly

Thank you very much, Kelly. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Lydi**
don't think you ever will close this chapter of your life Lydi... "motes" within sunbeams are what keeps us going sometimes... small dust particles that roams and get caught in the cobwebs in our brains to be picked and brought out for re-examination on those moonlit nights... yes Lydi, it could be said this is one of your "cryptically nice" poems... may you have many more chapters with messages and sunbeams and even "motes"... be well my friend as you hold your remembrances....

Oh, the sadness brought when love flies. Beautiful, sad words. The painting is perfect, also.

recently i watched "message in a bottle" again..
and wow...there is something in the theme of this poem...that dust mote, that reminds me of the letters that drifted on that sea...

moving piece.

I do believe everything happens in life has a connection and a meaning, but we need to connect the dots exactly to get the full picture, really a wonderful poem

You welcome, take care
I think we've all wondered about those still-open chapters.
You, Lydia, just wonder far more eloquently than most.
Exceptional work!
