A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a lazy few hours at the beach and a poem is born

"

artwork by vera cauwenbergh

the human parade

plays hide and seek with the tide

but I barely notice it

my strong coffee sweetened by inspiration

i conduct a symphony of waves

like a seasoned maestro

then, dreaming i am the queen

of the two story sand castle

just built by a ginger headed scamp

i write another poem

            because, after all

that’s what Sunday afternoons are for

                          right?

Yes, Lydia's absolutely right. Sunday afternoons always bring something better than Monday dunes - a little less foggy than Saturday evenings - a little more dynamic than Friday nights. You ain't write a poetry, but built a castle words... where remembrance of past & the aromas of wet sands both're saved behind the imagery. Nice flow of ink. Well written!

Thanks so much, hanir. Lydi*
Yes, I love Sundays. Perhaps for many reasons, but mostly they feel like good days, lazy days. Thank you for this Lydi, as I was successfully able to drown out the negative in here and fill my head with lovely thoughts.

Just about any day is a poetry day for me, Cassie! :) Thanks so much for stopping by. Lydi**
Nature and especially the sea, has a way of inspiring me too...throw in a lazy Sunday afternoon, and voila you have a poem ready...
This one has the distant scent of the sea incased in the words, with the roar of its waves as the backdrop. My favourite lines would be
"then, dreaming i am the queen
of the two story sand castle"

Love it, Lydi! I can just see you and your little one on a beach, he building sand castles and you, writing poetry on a Sunday afternoon. Your imagery is lovely and oh, so relaxing. Bravo!

I envy you your inspiration and, of course, your talent. I love the thought of making poetry out of a kid's sand castle. Always great to read you. ~Jim

Within such an idyllic setting, no better place to pen an equally idyllic poem at this 'right' time!

Halcyon times indeed Lydia, you're most certainly the Queen of the castle when it comes to penning an inspiring piece of us all to savor and enjoy !!
