one more time

one more time

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

as slippery as soap in the bath

you slid in and out of my life

how many times did i climb

a jacob’s ladder of tender words

back into your arms?

do you remember?  oh, i do!

stars fell out of the sky

yet you always caught them for me

sweet and contented would i be

for just THAT much time

till i remembered all the reasons

we could never be together

thing is

this afternoon

here

now

those reasons all disappear

once again i hold the conch shell we found to my ear

hoping to hear your voice one more time

Lydia...
The longing..in this poetic work of art..is
Palpable...remarkable analogies..the last two lines..
Incredible..
Climbing Jacob's ladder, catching stars..
Beauty envisioned by writing...
The imagery that portrays..the lifelong story
Of loving someone not right for you..
A story that has been written about through the centuries..
Echos here...
Worthy of Shakespeare..
Bravo...well done

Jimmy, your reviews make my day. Thanks so much. Lydi**
Hi Lydia,

I really enjoyed reading this piece. It has the right flow and it is well-balanced emotionally.
We all get these moments in our lives, when ' those reasons all disappear ' and the feelings take over control ( which is not a bad thing ) and you managed to capture it in writing. so nice!

Have I read this before? it sounds familiar.
it is so tender and reminiscent of a love that got away,
but still haunts your dreams.

always love your writing.

I posted it a month ago, Trace. It is possible you read it and did not review, not sure. Thanks fo.. read more
Love, my dear Lydia, is not like anything modern. In fact, it is rather old fashioned since the garments
and curves of it hardly goes out of style. We poets, (thank the good Lord) keep it alive like
that goldfish we change the water for each week, even when the stew of poo and flake has
settled on the glass tanks bottom. What I mean is that, even the hackneyed convictions of
conch shells and old memories aside, love is a new thing each time it's mentioned.

When you touch it, this love of life and duty, is as magical as it is ancient.

Even your reviews are poetic and have metaphors and similes sprinkled in the lines, Dana. Thank you.. read more
If only I could hear your voice one more time...
against the waves of loneliness and lost desire...
Your poem is sad and romantic like a play that
ends too soon. truly, Pat

Sometimes feelings overtake
Everything and so called common
sense is abandoned, maybe it's
just how we, human nature.
