sprinkles of springtime

sprinkles of springtime

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

april....always a reflective month for me

"

artwork by emma uber

on a balmy friday afternoon

the sky paints the isolated water of the lake

          soft ripples of blue-green-lilac

pulling my thoughts along an unbidden path

strewn with burgeoning blossoms of thought

i drink from the chalice of happenstance

slightly melancholic

                    or is that melodramatic

melodies begin to play

holding hands with march, a new month peeks around the corner

this one a mere whisper on the lips of a long ago april

but soon enough sprinkles of springtime tempt me

a butterfly winks at me

i blow bubbles of hope into the future

amazingly,  the sky continues to paint the water

pretending not to notice

" ... i drink from the chalice of happenstance " . Like, wow ! I always love your writing (You probably have figured that out by now) but that line is one that just hit the perfect chord with me. Lots of imagery, a little perfectly placed alliteration ... Yeah, you are on top of your game. Kudos. ~James

How accurately this captures the 'sprinkles' of the season, yes.
Should become an annual masterpiece here.

Thanks for the share!

You're welcome
wonderful use of words. Your words have painted a picture before my eyes and the message that I get is that there still is hope if we dare to dream

Indeed, Shabeeh....there is always hope. Thank you for your review. Lydi**
This is pretty with a sprinkle of past, present, and hope for the future ... There are some lovely bits in here, but most of all I like the ending -- nature inspires us, but does its own thing without us, doesn't it?

Your poem is filled with delightful phrases, most notably the title! We don't get many sprinkles in springtime, but reading this makes me long for more rain, to keep the greenery going & my creek flowing. I like the play on these 3 similar words: melancholic, melodramatic, & melodies. I also love "butterfly winks" and "bubbles of hope." Always a sensory delight to visit your world!
