the last word

the last word

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a poem i wrote back in 2006 that is still relevant now.

The last word....I have heard
is what some folks desire

For it they’ll fight...with all their might
filled with brimstone and much fire

But far more smart....tis an ancient art
to let it peacefully ride
To simply ignore....avoid the war
till unfriendly sparks subside

Yes, last, not first...truly is the worst
contrary to popular belief
Seal your lips....come to grips
to achieve the greatest relief.

Only you could have delivered a sensible message in such a witty and elegant way. yes, this is absolutely relevant, even now, and until humans walk the earth. ah, if only people knew the true value of shutting up. lol. you have the wisdom of the sages, and the skill of all poets combined. Love this!

dear Lydia... words are like feathers...
very difficult to gather them and hide away.
It is best to choose words carefully.
I love the sensibility of your poem.
truly, Pat

Your reviews always make me smile, Pat. Thank you so much. Lydi**
So true. If two people are arguing and they both want the last word, the argument will never end! Silence can be stronger than a raging war of words. Life is too short to be drawn into an interminably long argument anyway. As you say, Lydia, this poem is indeed still relevant! A good write.

Thanks so much, Robert. Lydi**
Many people need us to fight for the last word as they thrive on the war. Leaving them with nothing to respond to is often the most effective weapon in word wars. Well-said.

You are welcome, Lydi!
Another fine piece of work:)
There is a time and a place when we should use our voice
and other times silence is the answer.
Thanks for sharing and b-blessed!

I could not agree more! Each word fuels the fire more.
Keeping my mouth shut is hard but I'm learning, because I've been in those word battles and it just is not worth the stress. Good one Lydia.

Truly no one is the winner in one of those word battles. Thanks a lot, Ana. Lydi**
