for just a little while

for just a little while

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

“My soul is full of longing for the secret of the sea, and the heart of the great ocean sends a thrilling pulse through me.” ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

seagulls sing their anthem of freedom

the jetty wears a wedding gown of sea foam white

inside castles made with care

waves do a glorious slow dance ‘neath shell chandeliers

i smell…taste…feel

the smorgasbord of sea air

as it envelops all things dark

it is here life is beautiful

sea shells control the dimmer switch of life

even if for just a little while

Perfectly titled, written and ended Lydi. All good poetry should end with a sigh of longing from the reader, as they are immersed in your words, only for them to realise how much they want this scene to be played out in their life. Exceptional.

Thank you very much, Linda. Lydi**
Lydi, this could be my very favourite of all your beautiful poems. There's such a calm yet strongly visual feel throughout; it wraps around the senses, carries this sea worshipper exactly where
she wants to be. What's more, dear you, you use language like few others, ' .. the jetty wears a wedding gown of sea foam white .. '

So glad you enjoyed this one, Emma. Thank you for the lovely review. Lydi**
I find this write remarkably visual which of course I would enjoy. The wedding gown of the jetty the slow dance of shell chandeliers. And not only visual but all the senses get a look in. This is a real song of joy for the ocean and the emotions it engenders. A positive and enriching write.

I am minutes away from the beach, and visit quite often, even more so in the off season. I could wrap this poem around me and never feel a chill again.

"it is here life is beautiful

Your every word is palpable, Lydi!

Lydi you capture the essence of being by the sea and the sights and smells in this lovely observation.

Thanks so much, John. The ocean and the sea air makes me feel alive. Lydi**
sigh!!! such wonderful feeling and calm about this poem Lydi.. I love listening to the music heard in a sea shell and the ocean waves... your poem made the world seem nice, "even if for a little while"... and as I listened I also heard the sea say "nice", she write such "nice" poetry... so Lydi, I am not the only one... ;0)
