A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

poetry gets me through every situation in life

"

artwork by garmash

you see my smile

the embellished privacy curtain for my soul

but i hide the seeds of broken promises

uncomfortably lodged between my teeth

sure, i floss with open ended speculations

and rinse with rosy tinged insinuations

but i’m still over here hitting the space bar

between ennui and joi de vivre

so i read a while and suddenly

in a diverse instant the significance hits me

an epiphany!

your ginger scented syntax

is my Ahow to stay happy@ manual

my star in the firmament

so with sincere gratitude

i thank you!

It is for words such as these that we stumble in our reviews. Your use of language and the ease of their flow is perfect, natural and elegance defined.
There are no words that do your words justice, so I'll make one up...Lydi, the wonderful worderator :)

Very imaginative! You've come up with so many clever ways to craft your words, yet only conveying relatable everyday sentiments! Love the series of "teeth" metaphors, but "hitting the space bar between ennui & joi de vivre" might be one of the most creative collection of words ever! "Ginger-scented syntax" is another spot of fun word play. I love the dance between tough memories & rewarding present moments! *smile*

An enormously satisfying read Lydia. We all owe poetry so much.
And a masterclass in metaphor!
Pure class!

Thanks very much, Tony. Lydi**
what an absolutely wonderful poem/thank you Lydi... but with the way you write, the metaphors and life, I think you may have written that "stay happy@ manual" or at least have a few chapters in there..

a manual I could also use now and again, but I also think it is we, your faithful readers who want to thank you since it is very often your poetry that makes us very happy when we read... your poetry is our joi de vivre Lydi...

have I mentioned yet "nice" poem Lydi!!!

Writing, poetry and other forms, is often cathartic as it stimulates the cognitions and allows us to 'download 'feelings or diverts us from self. Nicely put Lydi!

Thank you so much, Tiana. Lydi**
The words you used couldn't have had a better effect on the poem.
I honestly didn't know what some of the words meant, but the general 'longing' was felt and related to..!!
I've been away from café for about 2 years now, and I now realize how much I must've missed..!!

So glad you have come back again! Thank you for the review. Lydi**
Poetry is, indeed, the fabric of our lives. And what a life it has given us!

Metaphorically speaking, you must be the queen of metaphors, for this shines like a new penny.
