mouthwatering moments

mouthwatering moments

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by andrew atroshenko

delicate and dainty

the minutes we spend together

are like porcelain plates

setting the table for an elegant meal

in these mouthwatering moments

adjectives refuse to define my emotions

adverbs roam and participles are free to dangle

linguistic categories have blurry lines

conjunctions fill gaps no human would dare

interjections overflow with love

these tiny threads of time have woven themselves

into an ever changing tapestry

growing more exquisite each time we meet

that’s why even in the alone of my time

you are right here beside me

toujours et toujours

The title is a beckoning bit of nice alliteration, followed by the same, again in the first line. This feels like your always-well-done wordplay pieces, as you dance around, weaving writing concepts with alluring sensory imaginings. I just noticed you also weave tapestries here *smile* I love the ending sentiments about always being there even during alone time.

'.. in the alone of my time .. '

So many qualities and skills you have, Lydi! You display love in all its glories, you feed the mind with superlative phrases and use of language, ' . conjunctions fill gaps no human would dare
interjections overflow with love.. ' and then, to finish, you add a touch of eternal French!.

Bala, I appreciate your review. Thank you. Lydi**
I'm sure I use the word elegant way too much when reviewing your work Lydi, but what can I say, the elegance of your thoughts and words are there for all to see. Superb, as ever.

Oh, but Kelly, you have achieved it many times over. Thanks for the great review. Lydi**
" ... conjunctions fill gaps no human would dare." Where do I begin ? A marvelous image to accompany such dazzling words ... words filled with imagery, allusion, and innuendo. You simply never fail to knock the ball out of the poetic ballpark. Kudos to my favorite poet on another wonderful write. ~Jim

Indeed a rich tapestry of emotions woven from recollections and made into a luscious, colourful piece of art; just like the picture chosen to accompany it Lydi.
