the morse code of music

the morse code of music

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

just a bit of a crazy day

"

artwork by angela nyiri
like a shooting star going through a time tunnel
landing in a place familiar to me many years ago
my thoughts ricochet back
i wonder
if the dead could speak what would they say?
if my bones could tell the tale would it be a bestseller?
my mind plods through the weeds
stopping to sip tea from that special cup you loved so much
the sweetness of the sugar lingers on my tongue
perhaps that is the last time i was truly happy
or was it?
yet another thought to ponder
details details
is the devil really in the details?
if he is why doesn't he show himself to me?
thoughts jiggled then jostled
the morse code of music sends its calming message to me
and for just a moment all is right with my world

so many great lines in this...the title..."ib my bones could tell the tale would it be a bestseller?"
and i think it would...
and sometimes i think there is a certain vagueness to happiness...not sure when i was last most happy...
if the dead do speak, i want to be there to hear what they say.

really deep poem, Lydi.

Music is most certainly transporting... I often find myself avoiding music (in spite of my love for it), the journey can just be too much for my senses at times. Somehow tho, I always find myself waiting for the next trip. Wonderful write.

Yes, music can transport us, no doubt about it. Thanks for the review and the visit, Travis. Lydi*.. read more
We look back on the past and make comparisons. As life and environment changes, , so do our concepts. .
Memories , good or bad are our judgement of these concepts.
This is what your poem conveyed to me and led me into my own realms of forgotten nostalgia. Thank you.

thanks so much for the visit, Norman. Hope you are feeling a little better every day. Lydi**
I love your title & the way it ties in to the ending. Generally speaking, your writing usually flows with a special grace unique to you. But here you've broken that up with a jackhammer, conveying the exact way it can feel, when one's mind stream is scrambled over & over. I love the darting directions in this train of thought, then how music calms everything down (for me, too!) Fondly, Margie

Yes yes yes how funny you picked that up:)
Thia really is created Artwork with a capital A. You lure readers with that bright graphic, woman of a time and place lost in the music. Then.. then. you have those glorious words of yours.. The telling of how and what you're given by music, how its touch, hug. sounds, echoes and soars around every part of you. And perhapsyou sing along to your thoughts, or lean your head to radio, player or whatrever and let your body relax and relate to the mechanics of yet another and different part of Artwork.. the ultimate. music.

What a wonderful way of saying it...absolutely.
Listening to somew smooth jazz as I review this and find it fits perfectly. Just the right atmosphere, a little bit of pathos and melancoly but an ultimate lift through the music into the words of memory.

Music complements our lives and becomes part of it! Thanks for your review, Ken. Lydi**
Lydi,
I would call this one "sweet and sour". A wonderful meditation on the passing of time. How do we measure happiness, or sadness? How do we rate a life? Really felt the lines "Stopping . . . tongue."
Interesting that the speaker would ask concerning the devil and details . . . The devil shows himself to me when he gets me to doubt the beauty of life . . . despite its uncertainty. Good opening lines . . . brings you right to the scene.

you are most welcome..
Love your posted image to accompany your words Lydi**. Those random mind wanderings lead you into some deep wells don't they? The more you ponder, the more questions you ask yourself. Some music will help calm that restless mind, but some will make it work more. Be sure to select some nice calming music, so you can float away. Some memorable lines here. Well done.
