mother's day 2010
i write sentences in the air
hoping you will read them
sure, the dust has gathered on certain memories
but some seem even more polished with time
wooden shoe images
spin on the blades of windmills
i hear you singing in the language of my childhood
i still have trouble thinking of you in the past tense
you were such a force in my life
and even when the universe was blistered
you always knew what to say
          what to do
to make it all feel okay again
mother's day is almost here
my tenth without you
i just want to find shelter between these lines
wear their meaning till the fit is comfortable
then cleanse myself in a fountain of tears
still embracing one undeniable truth
i miss you mommy!

It does seem like the last six weeks have made us stand still. Dates and time have no meaning, but you are right, people in our life, people who have gone but still stay with us daily. This is their time, and ours to say thanks for everything you done for us.

Thank you so much, Gram. Our moms are always in our hearts. Lydi***
Beautiful and heart stirring. I particularly love the first line break "I write sentences in the air / hoping you will read them" and the spacing of "what to say / what to do." Your words linger perfectly on the page. Really moving.

I couldn't imagine the feeling when one loses their mother. I'm fortunate to still have mine though. I know it was hard for me though when I lost my grandmother I was so close too. Meant the world to me. So beautifully written. I know she's looking down at you at all your great accomplishments, what you wrote of her here in thank yous and much love.

I love your poetry Lydi and this one is very special both for you as well as for those who read your words, making us realize how much our mothers shape our lives, give us the nourishment needed to be good people.... and also how hard it is to lose them... I think she reads each word you write in the air Lydi....
this is more than a "nice" poem Lydi.... HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to you as well...

dearest Lydia... a beautiful photo of you and your Mommy...
I understand the pleasure of having a caring Mother.
Their artistic flair and attitudes are embedded in our hearts.
It is a gift beyond compare. Ten years is a bit longer than I have known you.
We are indebted to her for bringing you into the world for others to
benefit from her Gift. Somehow Mothers prepare us for facing
difficulties with a challenge and a Pallet to paint with kindness and
giving to others part of what Mothers have bestowed upon us to endure
all things with courage and a smile. We are doubly blessed to have
our children who through Osmosis will benefit also. Happy Mothers Day.
Your friend, Pat
