A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork courtesy of wallpaper.net

dark tendrils of clouds
snaked their way into my room last night
till i ran out of dreams and rainbows
i awoke thirsty for a new day
heard the songbirds' sweet melody
drank in the morning dew
and once again i was won over
by the simple joy of life!

When you hear the bird song of each new day, it has such a positive effect. It can not fail to uplift you, even though there is so much in the media to do the opposite. Nature is healing, always gives me some brief respite. Those moments are precious. Lovely lines Lydi** and your posted artwork is. much appreciated by this reader.

I can somewhat relate to this one. When I first awaken, it's as though I'm clinically depressed and wonder if getting out of bed is worth it. Then, after the second cup of coffee, things don't seem that bad at all. That lasts until I start to read the paper. All bets are off after that.

(and once again i was won over by the simple joy of life!) May it always be so Lydi my dear! Perhaps it would be easier if we would just shut the _ _ _ _ TV off! Love reading your words my friend. ~Sharon

Amidst the chaos there is still joy to be found in the simple pleasures of life. You describe it so beautifully and remind us with each new day there is always something to be glad for. Staying positive in the face of so much negativity is an art in itself. Have a wonderful day Lydi!

Beautifully captured Lydi. There is nothing quite like waking with a smile and it being allowed to stay in place, for no reason other than it just being.
Little irritants smoothed over, grumbles forgotten and just a fresh white page ready to be written.
Perhaps a side effect to our current situation is that we won't forget our loss of liberty and accept things for what they are, fragile blessings of possibilities, just waiting to be had.
I have crossed out fourteen books from my bucket list of books to read before you die, turned the spare bedroom into an office and almost finished a 2000 piece jigsaw. I'm quite proud of the last fact, as it says 7 to 9 years on the box, but it's only taken me 4 months 😀
Still, there will come the day when we get sick of all that noise returning, so may as well enjoy the positives while we can.

I wholeheartedly agree!
Your words are tethered with gentle smiles when you
run out of dreams and wake to hear the sound of song birds
and perhaps see the wind in the trees doing the
Can Can in the style of the Moulin Rouge in Paris... "Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi" is the melody of rainbow dreams when love is beside you...

nothing like the sound of a songbird to let us find those rainbows that eluded us the night before.

Simple as that.... no frills or unnecessary embellishments, just perfectly picked words placed aesthetically upon an otherwise empty page... pure poetry,... like I said, simple as that x
