A Poem by Lydia Shutter

i beg of you
please wear your mask
i don't think this
is too much to ask!
we all are stressed
and oh so bored
not able to do things
we once adored.
meetings are now
all on zoom
can't have large groups
in one room.
we've all stocked up
on hand sanitizer
tank tops and shorts
are our new attire.
celebrations are now
all drive-bys
we've had to learn
to improvise.
the news tells us
of cases exponential
hope and patience
are truly essential.
yes, wear the damn mask
decorative or plain
we're all in this together
so please don't complain!

if ever there's better bewilderment, humour and touches of horror said in one poem, this is THE ONE, Lyd! You've said it all, stru t every nail on the head and YES we must wear masks, be more than patient and remember we're all in this together. Super piece of writing, hits home too and that makes it memorable Please read message... So hope your weekend goes happily. x

Lol. A bit late for that in some countries especially when half witted leaders refuse to believe medical evidence !
Good morning Lydia, hope you are well.

it feels rather like an exercise in futility these days:( to have to explain the importance of doing something for the sake of self preservation and for those of whom one might come in contact with you. Its really just a matter of respect for others let alone for self and as you can plainly see we have a real lack of respect out in the world! it feels like this will never end

dearest Lydi... I adore the Title of your poem.
An invisible threat has captured us and we are
pretty much helpless. We have discovered vaccines before...
and are perhaps closer to one now. However, in the mean time,
we must wear Masks to protect "Others" as well as ourself.
Too many people are reckless and selfish. We are in the hands
of precious time... like a Grandfather Clock that chimes.
We prepare to meet our Maker... but would rather stay for
much longer to see our grandchildren fulfill their dreams.
We can pray and believe that even the very wealthy living in their Fortress's
will breathe the droplets... so wear the "damn" Mask everyone.
You are Brave and forthecoming and even Mount Rushmore will never
be Crushed if we just cherish the moment and love one another and wear our Masks,
practice Social Distancing and do our best to not be a socialistic society. Amen, Pat

Amen indeed, Pat. Thank you so much for understanding and for the review. Lydi**
Best advice is to act like you are infected as well as others, because that's just how arbitrary it is. It doesn't care if you look cool or not, so I agree completely.... Don't be so arrogant to think you're special and wear the damn mask..... Please 😀

This is so different from your usual style Lydi**and I could hear the pleading in your lines. A nice little piece of rhyme here which flows so well. I for one can hear you and I only hope that those who are inconsiderate have a change of heart. Yes, wear the damned mask and let's stay safe. Life has changed and our behaviour has to change too to reflect the serious pandemic we find ourselves in. Your title is so polite but your cartoon figure is wagging her finger and means business. She is speaking with earnest. Happy Independence day Lydi** from across the pond.

Unfortunately....true.
how creative this is...an expression of how things are right now dealing with the pandemic.
But also, how you managed to fit all of these pleas in with perfect rhyming for effect.
the song remains the same...people are throwing caution and care to the wind...and there is not enough of that to offset this virus, unless we mask our selves and keep our distance.
Well done, my friend.
