night falls

night falls

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by fabian perez

the hem of the sun kisses the horizon
mother nature gently nudges the world into evening
the stress of the day lays drying
on this morning's news
there is a sort of ironic harmony here
my mind's eye sees images of long ago
of desire, cravings, yearnings
sensual heat
till, with the impetus of a crescendo
night falls
proving no matter how mundane or exciting life is
the calendar page does indeed turn

I didn't know whether to ooh or ahh at that ending Lydi, so instead I made the entirely new noise of Ahhoohhh 😀
This is the epitome of subtleness setting the pace and flow seamlessly to a most deserved ahhoohhh last line.
Slow and sensual beats speed reading every time 😀

You are welcome dear Lydia.
Change is the only constant and yes, Calendar pages do turn, no matter how mundane or exciting life is. It all passes by one day. I definitely liked the Imagery here, the hem of the sun kissing the horizon like the sun is a ball rolling on the floor of horizon. Stress and News remind us of our mundane lives, the sunset and the nights remind us of the exotic moments we could have in those moments. So, in a way, exotic and mundane moments come and go in life like day and night.

Thanks for this amazing read, Lydia. I liked the painting tho.

I appreciate your review. Thank you. Lydi**
indeed it does Lydia ... one page to another .. one word at a time ;) the musings are universal .. i feel a sense of peace in "Night Falls" ... great pic as it is a prelude to the touch of sensuality .. what would we be without it eh!? ;) i like the straightforward simplicity in this .. so relatable ... so easy to fit myself into it ... nice one :)

got it ;) .......................
I can identify with this one. Mother Nature does indeed have the final say as she draws us toward the night. Yet the mind remembers well the days when the blood ran thick and the heat rose regularly. Nothing wrong with that, but of course one event does occur to all. And as it is but a process of nature, can it really be evil?

No evil for sure. Thanks so much, John. Lydi**
The ending ties it together so nicely.
Tomorrow, it's either an escape from today or something to look forward to for happier reasons.
Either way, today never stays.

It surely doesn't. Thanks so much, Ana. Lydi**
Somehow... we beg, steal and borrow our share of
happiness...but then like a strike of lightening...
we surrender to the humming of a guitar and the
sounds of a lovers heart... knowing that heaven is
here on earth. tenderly, Pat

Thanks so much, sweet Pat. Lydi**
lovely look at the reality of time...a day is there and then it is gone, whether it was a good day or a bad day.
It is indeed ironic...we look back at how we were, what we did, and we have no way to turn back the clock.
