there was poetry

there was poetry

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by anna razumovskaya

i dared to dream
but the dream swam off
into the curve in a river
i would never be able to navigate
yes, the dream had its own agenda
then dust gathered
and the wind nearly erased the dream
morphing images of what might have been
then there was you
you stroked those images
as if they were a genie's lamp
resuscitating the dream
bringing it back to life
yes, you
as you walked through my dark alleyways
you illuminated them
and in the sunlight
there was poetry

thanks so much. Lydi**
This is a beautiful graceful journey of imagination. It reminds me of how our dreams are often diverted & they might go underground for a bit, but then are resurrected in different situations, possibly in new ways we couldn't have imagined. Your poem urges us to hold on to our dreams, but not in a rigid way that might preclude a surprise (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

What we find in poetry is often what we find in people.. a beckon, a whisper to learn more. Perhaps. This poem really touches me, Lydi, think it has more than a few layers, thank you so much for sharing it. Keep safe,, dear friend.. and, thank you.

You're welcome!
How romantic Lydi**. When you thought your dreams were out of reach a Prince Charming worked some special magic. How lovely when the shadows disappear and you have light. Your artwork is a perfect match for your lines. Keep safe and well my friend.

I thought at last lines end that you found a cord and pulled it and it was a makeup mirror with bulbs all around illuminating your reflection, as you are poetry Lydi.
Perhaps amongst all the personal and greater tragedies our life navigates, poetry is our island when we find ourselves, our real selves where we are unburdened by the layers of life that tries to distract us from our self.
I do wonder what all the unpoets do in times of need, but then I remember that they simply use the household thought desensitisor furniture, more commonly known as the tv 😀
I wonder if they dream in adverts 😀

Whoeee! Amazing poetry along marvelous paintings. Romance is illuminated through your words and art is highlighted by your choices. Genie's lamp was a great imagery. There was poetry and by poets like yourself, will always be...
