the chance

the chance

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

tom petty sang

“you don’t know how it feels…”

and i don’t think you did

nope, you never knew

i gasped

when you walked into the room

and my universe lit up

like the stars

at the mention of your name

earth tilting emotions

had me swooning

so i rolled the dice

allowing madame fate to do her thing

she knew best

or did she

i never had the chance to find out

Wonderful theme. If you feel that everything turns out for the best you will always be happy, if you believe that it doesn't you will always be nervous, sad of discontent, always feeling that there was something else you could have done. In that the past can not be relived you will never know.

I took a chance on my husband in 1985 and certainly made the right choice.. Yes, I allowed madame fate to do her thing and luckily I followed.
Enjoyed this poem..

I see an unrequited flame burning behind this one ... but maybe that's how the one unnoticed would read this. A gem. ~Jim

I'm lucky as my wife of 29 years took a gamble with me, let me share her life, taught me to love myself, have self belief, and moulded me into a much better person.
Enjoyed your words Lydia.Hope you are well

Great write Lydi! In your comment to Mr. Noodle you state this about Fate...( Oh yes, Fate is absolutely a woman. She is fickle and she can go from angel to b***h in 60 seconds! LOL) Guess I must change my name to Fate! LOL. ~Sharon

This made me wonder how many times I've acted on a feeling. Impulse. Yeah, it's that thing that makes us feel like Superman. Love the nod to Petty. And I see a new avatar! You know, you really do blow my mind!

you little minx you! ;) i rolled the dice and let madam fate have her way ... oh my! was she right or was she wrong?????????? oh the endless what ifs .. how many lovers, friends and total strangers that may have been ... i love the creative very unique turn in your closing .. and I never thought of fate as having gender .. but fickle as she is ... i guess she is a she :)))))))))) great poem .. packed with deep romance and ticklish humor about life .. puts a smile on me lips Ma'am

If we don't act upon a feeling...fate often won't help us out.
She takes a pass...and later we always think about "what if's"
I wish the speaker here could have found out what is was in those stars.
I really like this one, Lydi.
