multiplicity

multiplicity

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork courtesy of assma kh

a strong spice invaded my world last night

some would say it was necessary

but i’ve had quite enough

                   thank you very much

give me the bland tastes

the mundane of my routine

i do not want to rush to the precipice

i want to float there enjoying the scenery

allow me to embrace my secrets

just as they are

with no lacy edges

and no revelations

yes, I am a multiplicity of personalities

and tonight I will dance with them all

never asking for you to join me

I am a creature of habit. I try not to be predictable, but I like routine and can feel uncomfortable if I am forced outside my comfort zone. If that makes me boring in some people's eyes, so be it. We all have to embrace our secrets, but it is entirely up to us whether we tell anyone else or not. I think we are all a multiplicity of personalities, and we could surprise most people if we told them everything about us. Yes, we can dance with all of those personalities within us, and never ask anyone else to join us in doing that! An incisive, and poetic, piece, Lydi**!

I believe dear Lydia. All of us hold secrets. Best kept private.
"allow me to embrace my secrets
just as they are
with no lacy edges
and no revelations"
I did like the above lines a lot and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

I agree dear Lydia and you are welcome.
Reminds me of the pad thai I had the other day .... instead of just a nice tangy taste this one had some real heat, and it was NOT appreciated. I like my blandness, thanks. ~Jim

A woman who knows her mind. I like the sassiness of this poem. Do what you want and in your own time and your own space. Others have their opinions, you don't have to listen:) Conveyed with directness and sass. Love it Lydi**, and your posted artwork too.

Indeed. You do as well, Chris.
I love the, "let me do my thing and if you don't like it, kiss off" feel to this one. I might want to be a happy couch potato with hot tea, a fluffy comforter and a good book rather than the height of excitement. It's your right. Great write.

thank you, thank you!
I feel the writer is content in her skin, happy in her outlooks, prideful of her secrets. She just wants to live simply, eat her food uniquely, travel the road less traveled.
An excellent poem, art and subject. She needs her personal space you all. Nothing wrong with that.

Wowzy! You are welcome Lydia in Fl.
Interesting look at a subject that has long fascinated me. Some decry their day to day lives, wishing for some excitement. The speaker here begs to disagree, does not wish to "rush to the precipice." I can agree. Give the thrill seekers a week in Ukraine and they'd give their last dollar for a little peace and quiet.

routine is not so bad...
secrets need to remain just that...
I love the last stanza....dancing with all the personalities...
but floating, and enjoying the scenery....like a wake up call....to stop and smell the roses.
similar in theme, as I saw it, in Emily Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for death"
this is one of my favorites from you, Lydi. You are so blasted talented.
