frozen latte musing

frozen latte musing

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

here i sit
soaking up sunlight
watching it scattering glitter on the lapis ocean

i ponder...
is it even possible
to cling to little girl dreams
while making big girl decisions?

my heart is still filled with hopeful expectation
but my mind is replete with too much reality

disjointed thoughts pirouette
in the warm sand
till the cup that has appeared in my hand
grabs my attention

the bendable straw does a cosmic dance
through the whipped cream
then dives into my frozen latte
        a bit of ambrosia
               ahhhh…the sensation
finally freezing out all the ugliness
of the world i find myself in

A somehow thoughtful visual - a place to be.. watching ;my' choice of place to be. Reminds me of 'I must go down to the sea.. Something special on the shore of a vast watery world, sun shining silver on the waves, none of the black and grey of the never noisy, troubled world. The sea breeze is the best cleanser in the world, add that sip of frozen latte and inside and out: gentle is, gentle be' gently reaches into the very core of you.

' here i sit

i ponder...
is it even possible
to cling to little girl dreams
while making big girl decisions?

Little girl, big girl..life is real by water..

Your poem is a lovely and evocative meditation on the challenges of balancing our dreams and our realities, and the ways in which we find moments of respite and joy amidst the chaos of life. The use of imagery, such as "watching it scattering glitter on the lapis ocean," creates a sense of both beauty and wonder, while the juxtaposition of "little girl dreams" and "big girl decisions" adds a touch of poignancy and nostalgia. Your words convey a sense of both optimism and pragmatism, and the final lines, "finally freezing out all the ugliness / of the world i find myself in," are both refreshing and cathartic. Your poem is a testament to the power of language to transport us to other worlds, and to help us find our way back to ourselves.

The above lines. They can drown us, but we must happiness in our messy world. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. Lydi**
Such an enjoyable, pensive poem to sit below that beautiful picture, the sand, the sea, lapping waves with their almost hypnotic effect, taking one back to much more carefree and innocent times, alas, the reality check when it arrives brings with it the disdain of present days ..

finally freezing out all the ugliness

Tom, how sweet of you to leave a review for me. Thank you. Lydi**
Billy connolly once said " beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes right to the bone", and now we are seeing more and more of people's true ugliness, that can't be hidden behind a veneer of political smugness and self editing awesomeness of only posting and believing the fakebook pretence life we all wish was real.
Ps... I am reviewing this right now with my Starbucks caramel latte at hand, pretending I'm so hip and cool, daddy - o! 😊

What a lovely thing to say. Thank you Digvijay. Lydi**
The whipped cream, the warm sand, so tangible, I can feel the emotion and the sensations. Sometimes, a cup of sweet something is so necessary to freeze out the ugliness we perceive out there.
I relate absolutely and love this poem absolutely!

Kudos!

lapis! great word!!! put it in my "new words" file ;) the contrast is stark ... the pic struck me just as your poem does .. there is something so tragic and sad when the hope of innocence in "little girls" is met and tumbles in the harshness of reality .. very powerful poem emotively for me .. i feel the weight of it on my chest ... luv and joy darlin'
