potent yet gentle

potent yet gentle

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by robert mcginnis

potent yet gentle

you were a love sonnet

dancing through my universe

i wanted to give you my all

share my morning coffee with you

and then hold your hand

as we gazed at the moon

you were my epicurean meal

i was your comfort food

we flew so high

for just a NY minute

a minute that refuses to leave my heart

without exit wounds

I love these words combined with this art-work. They have such a timeless effect, like old films, back when they were "films" and not just "movies," because they were art and not mostly mindless entertainment.
I had a dress similar to this, once. Considered whether I should look for another similar.
Above all, I love these words.

Artwork is always a great complement to poetry if you ask me. Wow, you had a dress like that one? .. read more

Always my pleasure dear Lydia and you are welcome.
Your poem is a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to the power of love, and to the joys and sorrows that come with it. The use of metaphors, such as "you were a love sonnet / dancing through my universe," creates a sense of both passion and grace, while the imagery of "share my morning coffee with you / and then hold your hand / as we gazed at the moon" adds a touch of intimacy and tenderness. Your words convey a sense of both longing and acceptance, and the final lines, "a minute that refuses to leave my heart / without exit wounds," are both haunting and poignant. Your poem is a testament to the power of language to express the deepest emotions, and to find beauty and meaning in even the most fleeting moments.

Thank you so much Bhuyanshi! I appreciate your in depth review. Lydi**
A love that felt like a minute and yet stays firmly affixed to the heart. Indeed, so firmly, its departure would leave exit wounds. So let it stay, as the gentle sonnet that it is, to remind you that all great things need to be forever as long as their essence lingers on. Once again, I enjoyed the absolute beauty of your words, the gentle nudge of wistful feelings and the stunning artwork.

I loved it, dear Lydi. You're most welcome. ⚘
Hi there,
I believe last year when I first started posting for the very first time ever I reviewed your poems and then somehow lost track of you... Glad to find you again and read this delicious poem..
I love the image..Not many poets post their poems with images and I just love it when I find one that does.
Your poem is one that I really relate too and although different than the way I write it definitely is of the same theme as many of mine..
Again, I loved it and I am so happy to have read it...

Travel as much and as often as you can. I have enjoyed so much travel myself.
Your words are utterly adoring, absolutely alluring and placed in a beautifully elegant way, Lydi.
Magically laid, ' .. you were my epicurean meal - i was your comfort food'. That made me smile and tingle at the same time.. what a thought!

Your romance poetry really hits all the right pleasant notes Lydi. And here is a superb example. You are the mistress of love poetry. If you will pardon the wording but I couldnt for the moment think of another way to put it.
