My Fir$t Love

My Fir$t Love

A Poem by Lyrical Love
"

Collaboration from CYNTAX & LYRICAL LOVE

"
The root of all evil is so necessary,
January's rent gets us all through February.
We're all faith-based but currency's priority,
If I shouldn't worship dollars, then God, why torture me?

For everything...there is a particular price.
Like my Son-Can you pay with your life?
While in preparation for the next step.
Hold the rope... watch the risers-look down, upon your brother's neck.

Do we really make sacrifices?
Either 401ks or contributing to life's vices.
Hypocrites with fat pockets or prayers for wealth,
Is it God or co-payments that give us health?

Currency by weight was the testament of old,
Asses, land, and oils replaced with silver and gold.
Digging in the grasses, you'll always find false prophecy
Mailing 200.00 weekly, with hopes of a new democracy.

In the end, we worship what doesn't even exist,
Just numbers on a screen or green papers in a tight fist.
What's cash without "the man" telling us our worth?
What's life without the Lord getting us through birth?

Stand strong and place monetary value where it is due,
Listening to what's above... Not that distorted view.
Short-changed and cheated, an economy failed...
The real Power from God is NOT for sale.

As I read these words, I see in them a precisely theological poem, one that captures well the essence of the biblical perspective that demands that our priorities be kept straight. The poem's various biblical allusions are quite effective.

You're absolutely right, of course. But I can't help think of the irony of the religion business in the process.

"You" meaning Lyrical Love; I haven't had contact w/Cyntax yet, so I'll take this a cue and do so.

This poem keeps its heart and mind clear, because still above issues of that peculiar term "theology" ('cause how is a pack of beliefs knowledge of anything?).

Take this heart to heart, 'cause I trust yours. I'm genuinely interested in your impression of this. When I read a bumper sticker that says "Jesus is God. Read the Bible," my response is: "Existence is God. Read the Moment."

I consider my counter "bumper sticker" the difference between religion and spiritual intelligence. What do you think?

Your poem stimulates a plethora of impressions, always a sign of Spirit power. I don't want to try to say everything at once. Perhaps we can discuss Spirit matters further.

Meantime, I agree with Guitar Girl, the four lines begun by "Currency" are really strong, and redolent of Dylan in his "Slow Train Coming" period, among other resonances.

When you're not writing about love, I know something truly is wrong with the world. You are the resident "lover" of my current group; I've grown used to reading your warmth and your sweetness. So when I'm reading:

"Do we really make sacrifices?
Either 401ks or contributing to life's vices.
Hypocrites with fat pockets or prayers for wealth,
Is it God or co-payments that give us health?"

I KNOW something is wrong. And it's true; you make a good point. Money makes a mockery of faith, though faith precedes money by several millennia. It's sad and depressing, and you completely captured the anguish the nation is feeling.
