Hypochondriac

Hypochondriac

A Poem by Aurora

You can take this piece as comedy or serious, I'm not good at throwing jokes, I do to people who are too close to me, I generally make no effort to make people laugh. Anyways, you can read this.

Hypochondriac

Hypochondriacs can worry themselves sick - The San Diego Union-Tribune

You are ok...
They asked, they said
They said I'm OK,
But am I OK?
I think I'm fine because they say,
But am I really fine?
Who are they?
How do they know me?
Do I know them?
How did they know that I'm OK?
But do they know, Really?

No I can't be fine!
I was ill, I said I was ill,
Mentally and physically,
I had a headache,
It could be a migraine,
No maybe a haemorrhage!
I feel frizzy, dizzy, I'm sweating
It's definitely Malaria!
Ow! my stomach hurting
Maybe a food poisoning.
Oh no! I can't breathe,
My lungs are damaging
I'm going to cough blood.
I feel so sad and ill,
Maybe a depression or
Could be hypertension.
I feel kicked in my stomach
GOTCHA! a Hypochondriac!

Author's Note

Aurora
Hypochondria is often characterized by fears that minor bodily or mental symptoms may indicate a serious illness, constant self-examination and self-diagnosis, and a preoccupation with one's body. These people often suffer distrust in the society because they are often wrong about their disease, they feel they have serious physical or mental illness, which people often feel they are lying or trying to seek attention of others. The writer Jerome K. Jerome reveals that he's hypochondriac in his book "Three men in a boat". However not much about his recovery was written there. The poem comes up from the instance.
You can read this poem like a wimpy man tells about his terrible fears that sounds funny or you can seriously think, does he deserves help, love and trust?

My obsessive brain borders on OCD and on being a hypochondriac sometimes.
I thought this was funny. I laughed, well, on the inside anyway.

This definitely feels like you're making fun of the concept of hypochondria & this is becuz your illness labels are rather stark & wide-open, like an exaggeration for fun. You do a good job of making this poem FEEL as if it's coming from inside the head of a hypochrondriac, yet also pumping it up to a fun level, so that we know you're kidding around. As an older person, I would say half the old people I know fit the definition in your doctor's notes. The thing I hate the most about being old is the way everyone is addicted to their physical problem-solving quest, with doctor appts being the high point of the week & showing off 20 prescriptions like a trophy of how tough their lives are. God help me if I ever start describing everything s****y way I feel! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I meant authors notes, not doctors!!!!

I've become a virtual hypochondriac now, gave the doctor all my symptoms, and straight away he told me my computer has a virus.

Oh my dear You sound so bad > headaches bad lungs >>> you should be isolating your self
The main thing to say I am wrong is YOU DON'T SAY ABOUT A COUGH

I DO try to be funny sometimes > but not always appreciated
i don't read this as someone who is sick or as someone who takes suggestions that they're sick (as a hypochondriac does). i read this as someone who just wants simple normal validation. you're not sick, you're human. suffering distrust in society isn't your sickness, it's society that is sick for not suffering to trust you! i believe you have all the symptoms you say, but the problem isn't you! it's society. society isn't friendly. your "recovery" can't be fixed by you because what you need is friendship - a friend! - just like most people in society.

Thank you! Sometimes society has a great role to play but often it fails.
Great little poem. There are hypochondriacs out there I'm sure but I've got to share this because it happened to me. I told a doctor I had a stomach issue and they ran a series of tests including an MRI and an upper GI scan. They said, it's nothing, you probably just have a gas pocket. Less than a month later I was in an operating room having open abdominal surgery because my internal organs had grown together. Later, the same doctor...I went because I had a very sore throat and was coughing with some blood coming up from my throat. The doctor said, it looks normal but slightly inflamed, nothing to worry about though. And then she asked if I was a hypochondriac! Less than a week later I was having my tonsils removed for a growth on one of them. (after I saw a specialist). Needless to say, I dropped that quack doctor. So, sometimes, doctors misdiagnose their patients because they just won't listen to the patient. That's the OTHER side of the "hypochondriac" story.
