The Flower Pot

The Flower Pot

A Poem by la Abeja

My desire to grow has been bruised
'Cause the pressure's too tight to move
I must find a way to break through

A lonely rose in a flower pot
Cries over what she is not
What she is. What she ought
To be: able to grow and move

Root-bound, cramped, starving
Only leaves her screaming
Begging for growth more free
Longing to spread her roots

This container no longer holds
Everything she wants to know
Too much spills from the mold
Life tries to shove her into

To grow is to change
To live life uncaged
To be trapped this way
Leaves life's hunger bruised

Cracks in this ceramic pen
Show me where to begin
To press for space more open
And I'm breaking through.

this poem is incredibly deep, I understand every bit of it. We mush have room to grow and breathe to survive.

I know we spoke about this poem earlier. I love it...very beautiful imagery and extended metaphor you explained to me. However, the rhythm is too choppy...I do not know if this adds or takes away from your poem. Particularly, in the second and fourth stanzas. Read those aloud and see how the last lines in each kind of make the reader stumble and stops the flow. Maybe, its just me. Love the rhyme pattern and everything else. Thanks for sharing. Keep writing.

Wow! Amazingly beautiful poem! I wonder why it hasn't been reviewed! Beautiful have described in extremely moving lines, the frustration of captivity and restraints...the hope and resilience also shine through admirably...I really enjoyed this write!

Though I enjoy writing, I am only a novice. Many of my peers enjoy the pieces I have written in the past, but I would really enjoy hearing the opinion, no matter how harsh, of someone who does not kn.. more..
