Hail the Almighty

Hail the Almighty

A Poem by la Abeja

A little cynicism for you.

From the day we are born

We are indebted to you

And how quickly we realize

How much we need you in our lives

So we all Hail

All Hail You the Almighty

We cannot move about this

World without your blessing

Long gone children's smiling faces

If not for your good graces

So we all Hail You

All Hail You, Almighty Dollar

Wars are not won by the strong

Nor by those most religiously devout

Wars are won

By the biggest gunned

Those who’ve bought views

Projected in living rooms

And those bought the tide of loyalty

The tide flows and ebbs

Ebbs and flows ‘til a higher bid

Almighty Dollar rules!

Those who lack are those who need

But those who have, are blessed to receive

All Hail the Almighty Dollar!

Your model servants are greedy and corrupt

While the impoverished and honest are viewed with contempt

In a world where the Almighty Dollar is still seen as god

Justice can never, no will never be found

We sacrifice our lives at your temple doors

All the while screaming, “More! More! MORE!”

But we hail you just the same

All Hail! All Hail!

All Hail the Almighty!

Hail the Almighty Dollar!

I wrote this poem about a week and a half ago and then two days later the comic strip above was printed in our local newspaper. Weird.

Though I enjoy writing, I am only a novice. Many of my peers enjoy the pieces I have written in the past, but I would really enjoy hearing the opinion, no matter how harsh, of someone who does not kn.. more..
