Winter

Winter

A Poem by Madeline Derujinsky

There is something about winter, the way it wraps around you like a blanket.
It makes all the people around you warmer and more useful.
It makes the sweets sweeter and the savory left for saving.
It makes me miss the family i never had and need the people that tend to leave.
Instead I rely on cashmere sweaters and knee socks to keep me sheltered from the cold you emit
when you sit across from me at every meeting.
The skin is thick but I still feel the hurt.
