The Knife

The Knife

A Poem by Manda

My conscious tells me it's wrong
Making me scared to try
First attempts are unsuccessful
But finally I break the skin
A thin layer of blood appears
Where the knife broke into my skin
All I feel is burning
But for a moment my heartache is gone
God I messed up,
My conscious tells me
Over and over again
To keep going
Just a little deeper
I role my eyes
Knowing I've done enough damage
For now
I hate myself for what I've done
Not to me but to you
I'm better off alone
And with my new scars
To never let me forget
What I have done...

Self bleeding to know we are are alive. Sometime the knife can be drugs or alcohol.
"I hate myself for what I've done
Not to me but to you "
Funny how regret worked. Above lines left something for the reader to think about. Thank you Manda for sharing the powerful poetry.

So beautiful and heartfelt. It really gave the reader an inside look at the reasoning behind such a common and misunderstood act.
