Hush Little Baby

Hush Little Baby

A Poem by Manda
"

She was so young when she lost her father. But he will never be forgotten.

"
              ***************
Hush little baby don't say a word.
Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird

And if that mockingbird won't sing
Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring

And if that diamond ring turns brass
Papa's gonna buy you a looking glass

And if that looking glass gets broke
Papa's gonna buy you a billy goat

And if that billy goat won't pull
Papa's gonna buy you a cart and bull

And if that cart and bull fall down
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town
              ***************

I remembered when Papa used to sing to me
Until I fell asleep...

Every night he would hold me in his arms
And rock me back and forth
Singing Hush Little Baby

He did this for months...
But one day everything changed

One night when it was time to go to sleep
Papa wasnt there to sing to me

And nights after that he still didnt
I never saw Papa

Mama told me that he died of Cancer
And that I was too young to understand

I loved my Papa very much
And I missed him even more

When I was older
I realized what had happened to my father

Its sad to know that what I loved most
Was taken from me forever

Even though my Papa isnt here to sing to me
I carry him in my heart

Forever and always
I will love my Papa

I would savor these little memories
Forever and ever until the day I die

This is a really amazing write. This poem resonated with me so much, because my Dad used to sing to me when I was younger (Although it was 'You Are My Sunshine' instead of 'Hush Little Baby'. :P), and he kept singing, until the day he moved. I thought that you captured these emotions beautifully, and wrote it in such an elegant and captivating way. There were a few grammatical issues regarding tense, but I think that overall, this is one of your strongest writes so far. You've done a fantastic job with this. :D

absolutely wonderful darling. I would think, actually, about interweaving the words of the song throughout the poem you've written. It would join the two together fabulously. You write this wonderfully and from the heart. I too miss the songs of my childhood. It is amazing how you miss all the little things when you grow up.

Nice work!

Manda, your poems are always great reads, and this was extremely emotional. I am sorry for your loss, and it is great that you can write about it. Great job.

Your poem is in somewhat of a poem form, but as I was reading it, it sounded more like a story. Whether it is a story or poem, it is beautiful.
