Step-Dad

Step-Dad

A Poem by Manda
"

He may not be my real dad but I will always love him like he was my own.

"
You raised
And protected me
As if I was one of your own

   You gave me the dad
   I never had

      You loved
      And cared for me

         Walking the path of life
         With me by your side

            I was the daughter
            You never got to have

I know you're not my dad
               But I don't care

                 You raised
                 And cared for me
As if I was one of your own

                    And with that
                    You deserve the title
                    Of being my dad

                       You loved me
And I will always love you back

It's difficult to write of one's feelings for DAD. The one that rarely shows his emotions openly when their daughters are young; least that's been my experience. In recent years though my Dad has become more caring... as though the need for a closer connection finally surfaced. Thankfully I too have opened up and read his need for hugs and conversation from me and with me. We too are very similar "inside" and I've been taking the time to be closer now that we've both evolved into "more mature" individuals. He's 3 days shy of 73 and I'm 39 days past 46. ;~)
