Embers of My Heart

An ode to trust

I don’t let my fire run free

regardless of it’s warmth and beauty

I put it in it’s place, it’s defined box

I can poke at I when I want, choosing it’s fate

controlling my involvement

able to walk away 

But you threw a match

and when it’s took it’s aim

it was no mere paper spark 

but a bright, hearty flame

Illuminating within me

something I couldn’t see 

These burns are barley healed

they speak to me in whispers 

compelling me quietly 

“now walk away”

But this new fire is exquisite

its radiant flames drawing me in

keeping me safe from the dark

and sheltered from the cold 

I might let this fire run free

because some things simply 

should be
