Hero

Hero

A Poem by Mandy
"

you know.. i don't really know.

"
The day I married you,
I knew, you knew,
but we never expected.
Now the day has come,
and there's nothing I can do except accept it.

You're gone.
You died from an unexpected bomb.
I knew you shouldn't have left,
Now this is what I have to dread

Telling your mom,
Telling your dad,
Telling everyone.
But most importantly
Telling her.

She's your little girl,
This little girl wants her Daddy.
And all I can tell her is
Daddy loves you with all his heart,
and want you to know that he will always be there, wherever you are.

To see this look.
This look of being lost.
I can see the fear in her eyes.
It's been years now, and she finally knows.

She woke this morning.
I heard the clicks and the clangs.
She wears them everyday.
The day I gave her these Dog-tags.
She said mommy I will wear these til the day I get my own.

Now she's leaving and I thought you should know,
She loves you,
She wants to die an American hero...
      Just like her Daddy.
